Where will you be in 2021? 3 amazing boys want to meet you!

Family of 3 outgoing boys seek a fun loving teacher or teacher couple for a AHVISE Position in 2021, although help at any time is also appreciated.

These wonderfully adventurous young men reside on a progressive, biodynamic and organic cattle property in North Queensland, situated 2.5hrs (140km) drive west of Ingham and 3hrs (250km) from both Charters Towers and Townsville.  The property is situated along the Burdekin River, which is within walking distance of the house – allowing for kayaking, swimming, fishing and bird watching. The natural landscapes also lends itself to horse riding, hunting, mountain climbing, quoll spotting, photography – even milking the house cow and collecting fresh eggs each day, if you desire! We would encourage our AHVISE to become a part of our family for the duration of their stay – participating in all that our wonderful lifestyle and property has to offer.

The generally enthusiastic students will be studying grades 2,4,6 through Charters Towers Distance Education. They love reading, maths, science and art. Areas of difficulty for them include sitting still when mustering is on and not talking too much/staying focused. Our oldest is mostly independent and just needs prompting to keep up to date with his schedule- which he is more than capable of doing. Our middle child needs encouraging to add more detail to his work and to become more independent with his own schedule. Our youngest has a bit of trouble with pronouncing some sounds clearly – which we’re working on with the help of a speech therapist and one on one lessons with his school teacher. He also needs some assistance with his reading. The outgoing young gents’ favourite pastimes include fishing, camping, fishing, motorbike and pushbike riding, cooking, art and crafts, trampolining, horse riding, tree climbing, playing LEGO, swimming and sports. You name it – they usually want to participate in it!

The property is able to cater for the travelling AHVISE who have their own caravan as well as those who require a single or double room. This accommodation is shared (each bedroom has lockable door, cupboard, fan, some have air conditioners), however there is a full laundry, upstairs toilet and bathroom, kitchen and living area. (There is a downstairs ablution block as well for those with a van that would like ensuite style facilities.)

WiFi is provided as is landline telephone, television and limited (due to coverage) mobile reception. The family would welcome the AHVISE Tutor/couple to join in with the family and staff for all meals, except breakfast. We also understand that the Tutor/couple may want their own space – in which case, meal options can be arranged to suit. The children are actively encouraged to allow all staff private time and are not permitted in the quarters accommodation.

Other staff on the property, besides our family may include our two young station hands and seasonal staff.  Station life always lends itself to something new – whether it be weaning calves, installing electric fencing, building soil rehydration projects or applying biodynamic preparations – we encourage our AHVISE guests to experience everything we can offer.

The family would be more than happy to collect our AHVISE tutor/couple from Townsville (if coming by air) or Ingham (by train). The road to the property mostly consists of bitumen with only 80km of scenic dirt road – corrugated in a few spots and if required, could be accessed by a steadily driven lower clearance vehicle.

Of things to see and do in our local area (with some travelling involved)

  • check out Mt Fox Lava Tube and Valley Of Lagoons (volcanic crater lagoons)
  • explore Wallaman Falls (longest single drop waterfall in Qld) and its smaller sister Jourama Falls,
  • take a look at Lucinda Jetty (world’s longest offshore sugar loading facility that follows the curve of the earth),

  • hike Hinchinbrook Island or visit Magnetic Island,
